Three by Three: Guest Artists in Focus
QUESTION 2. As both a founder and choreographer, you lead a team of dancers with different strengths and styles. How do you build choreography that allows individuality while still reading as one unified organism on stage?
ANSWER 2. Actually, I know who is form the dancers can dance better solo parts, and sometimes I even don’t make choreography for these solo parts, I just explain to the dancer what I want to see, but sometimes I can to add some moves from myself to this solo to make it better. What about a group choreography…I make it with my vision, and everybody just learn it…but if for somebody
really difficult to make some move, I can change it to make the
choreography comfortable for everybody.

Denis "B-boy Delvis" Emelianov
Dancer, Choreographer, and Co-Founder & Leader of <<Symbioz Show>> Team
BIO: I'm 31 years old, I live in Russia in Belgorod city (Belgorod region). I have dancing for 20 years, when I was starting to dance it was my hobby, but then I wanted to turn dancing into my profession, it was not easy way to do it, but after years I made it. and I've worked as a professional dancer in different projects and countries: France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, China, Switzerland, Monaco, Ukraine, Malasia. During my dance way I've won a lot of different break-dance festivals, I've organized 5 dance festivals, I've worked as a break-dance coach, as a choreographer and dancer in different stages: from small night clubs to big stages and arenas. Last year me and my older brother Roman Emelianov (he is also dancer and we always work together), we decided to make our own show project, and we created the "Symbioz show" team. At the moment we are in the process of creation of different new acts with our team, and we will work with our acts in different show projects.

QUESTION 3. Moving between large-scale group performances and solo street-dance works requires a shift in energy and intention. What changes for you internally when the spectacle falls away and it’s just your body in space?
ANSWER 3. It’s really different feelings when I dance in the team act and when I dance as a solo dancer…and it needs different skills, but I have both of these skills. For me, it’s actually mentally easier to dance with a team, because the audience's focus isn't just on me, and I feel support of the team. But when I dance solo, I feel more freedom, because I can make freestyle, and I can more express myself. But I love both ways!
QUESTION 1. Symbioz Show blends street dance styles with illusion-based spectacle. How do you ensure that technical effects enhance the dance rather than overshadow the physical skill behind it?
ANSWER 1. I worked for a long time as a dancer in other team who also made acts with light costumes, that’s why I have extensive experience in this genre, and that’s why I know how to keep this balance between physical moves and light effects. Actually it’s not easy to keep it. Sometimes I even change choreography or lighting effects during rehearsals to keep this balance. But one of the tools to keep it, it’s to make the transitions between physical moves and lighting effects like a flow…
