Three by Three: Guest Artists in Focus

QUESTION 2.    Many of your pieces rely on just two main colors. What draws you to these restrained palettes, and how do limitations sharpen your decisions?

  • ANSWER 2.     Working with limited palettes helps me focus and make more deliberate decisions. Restriction removes excess choice and sharpens my attention, allowing each color to carry more emotional weight.

QUESTION 3.    Do you think of your paintings as emotional states, conversations between colors, or something else entirely? How would you describe what’s “happening” inside the work?

  • ANSWER 3.     I think of my paintings as emotional states rather than fixed ideas. What’s happening inside the work is a conversation between colors, pressure, and balance. The process is intuitive, and meaning often reveals itself only after the painting is finished.

QUESTION 1.    Red appears powerfully and repeatedly across your work. What does that color allow you to express emotionally or psychologically that other colors cannot?

  • ANSWER 1.   Red appears in my work as a carrier of intensity and vulnerability at the same time. It allows me to express emotional pressure, inner urgency, and presence in a way no other color can. Red feels physical and psychological — it demands attention and holds tension without explanation.
