Three by Three: Guest Artists in Focus

QUESTION 2.  Themes of womanhood, liberation, and self-actualization pulse through your work. What personal moment of emancipation most powerfully fuels the emotional currents in your current paintings?

  • ANSWER 2.   Recent life changes have been profoundly influential in my work, particularly a cross-country move and stepping into larger personal and professional goals. Navigating those transitions as a young woman has deeply influenced my current work. There were moments of uncertainty, challenge, and growth which have shaped the emotional intensity of my current painting. The most powerful shift has been learning to believe in myself and to envision the story before the result appears. Rather than creating from fear or societal limitations placed on women, I choose to paint from belief, possibility, and self-trust, allowing the work to reflect both the struggle and the liberation that come with growth.

QUESTION 3.    Your acrylic abstractions weave expressionistic energy with subtle figurative echoes. When you begin a piece, how do you decide which parts of the story should remain visceral and abstract, and which deserve a more recognizable human trace?

  • ANSWER 3.      Each artwork begins with the story it carries, and that story naturally guides the balance between abstraction and figurative elements. My work is mostly rooted in abstract expressionism with subtle figurative echoes, where the most important moments, the emotional climax or core truth, often emerge through recognizable human forms or symbols. The abstract elements carry the feeling, while the figurative aspects help ground the viewer in the narrative. Together, they grow organically, supporting and completing one another to create a cohesive, layered story.

QUESTION 1.  Your work has been showcased from Maryland to Miami, often resonating with audiences seeking catharsis and reinvention. When viewers share how your pieces mirror their own healing journeys, how does that collective response influence your evolving artistic direction?

  • ANSWER 1.    Every piece I create is rooted in a true story, whether my own, or someone I know or have met along the way. Much of my work explores womanhood, human transformation, and the process of releasing limitations to become one’s most authentic self. When I exhibit my work and engage in conversations with the community, their responses deeply influence my creative direction. Hearing people share how a piece reflects their healing or listening to their own stories of resilience often inspires future work. Even in moments of deep sadness or vulnerability, I believe in the power of storytelling and creation. We take pain, share it, and transform it into something meaningful, a visual reminder that even our hardest moments can become masterpieces!
